A Family Outing

It was a bright and sunny afternoon. Usually my family and I always go out somewhere on weekends and today we were heading for the beach at the East Coast Park. As usual, the beach was packed with picnickers but luckily we could find a quiet and shady spot and we laid our mat on the cold sand. I was relieved. I hate warm sand as it makes me feel hot and sweaty very easily.
After placing all our belongings on the mat, my sister, father and I went to build sandcastles while my mother took out the radio and started listening to music because she hated getting her hand dirty.
After that, my whole family went for swimming. I love swimming because the cool water rejuvenates me and I feel energetic and awake. We had a lot of fun. My father and I had a race in which he narrowly won me. Then, we all started splashing water at each other. At one time, my father was trying to catch me and I was swimming away from the shore when I suddenly hit something. I realized that it was the line which we could not pass because the water was too deep. Luckily, the thing was there or else I could not imagine how far I would have gone.
Soon it was evening time and the sun had just set. We all dried ourselves and tiredly sat on the mat for some time, listening to music. After some time, we all went to the barbecue pit and started grilling the food we had brought. A delicious aroma of food entered my nose and I licked my tongue greedily. My mother served the food and to my astonishment, I found chilly crab on my plate. My most favorite food was chilly crab. I started wolfing down the food hungrily until I gave a loud burp.
It was already late night so we packed our things and made our way home. On the way home, I realized what a loving and caring family I had and I feel proud myself to be a part of it. This memorable day will be etched in my memory forever.

Dumb Robbers

It happened on one Saturday evening. My mother and I were out for a shopping to buy a gift for my father on his birthday. After giving a lot of though about what to buy, my mother decided on a gold ring.
We went on to the street famous for number of jewelry shops. After checking the gold rate in one of the shops we went inside. The sales assistant greeted us with a friendly smile and showed a variety of gold rings with different designs. My mother was looking with amazement at few of the rings studded with sparkling diamonds. Just as mom was about to ask the cost, two men wearing ski-mask rushed into the shop. They brushed past me, almost pushing me to the side so I shouted angrily, “Hey, are you blind? Don’t you have any manners to say sorry?”
They turned around and said looking at me menacingly; “Shut up or else….”They took out their guns from their hip pocket and pointed at me. I froze to death and said nothing.
“This is a robbery! Everyone except those who are working here stand in a row,” one of the robber said with his arms akimbo.
The other robber closed the entrance of the shop so that nobody could escape out to inform the police. After making sure that the entrance was firmly locked, he placed a brief case on the counter and ordered one of the Sales Assistants to empty all the jewellery into the briefcase. The Sales Assistant was shaking with fear, but quickly obeyed fearing for his life.
Suddenly I notice the red burglar alarm button in one of the corner and not far from me. I slowly inched my way towards the button without catching the eyes of the burglars. After a lot of difficulty I got close to the alarm button. I cautiously lifted my right leg and pressed the button without getting noticed by the robbers. In my mind I was thinking these robbers must be new in the business that’s why they could not see me moving. The alarm started to ring loudly. The robbers were caught unaware and started panicking. One of them snatched the bag from the sales assistant, closed it hurriedly and went to open the door but the door did not budge. They started kicking the door but to no avail.

I was watching the whole scene with much amusement. Finally they realized that the door was locked by them only so they went back to a counter to take the key. I had already started cracking at their stupidity when one of them opened the door. To their horror, they were greeted by none other than a few policemen with guns touting at them. Now it was the robberer’s turn to feel the heat. They quickly got handcuffed and everyone including my mother and I came out from the shop immediately. My mother was still frightened when we reached home. I related the whole story to my father when he returned from the office. While my mother looked pale my father and I were laughing our heads off because of the stupid actions of the dumb robbers. They dug the pit for themselves. I will never forget this humorous incidence.

Music Man

Every human being has their own hobbies that they love to indulge in during their spare time. My hobby is listening to music. Even when I was a small kid I found myself going to sleep the moment my mother sang me a melodious song and music has remained my main-stay ever since.

At home when I am alone, I will just play the songs on my hand phone. When I am on my way to school, you can spot me by my bright orange ear piece. I simply love listening to music, especially the rock songs.

They say that music has a soothing quality. I totally agree with it and have experienced this myself many times. At home, when I am angry at something and lose my temper my hands will always reach-out for my hand phone and ear piece and within a flash I will be normal again. I really go ga-ga over music.

Do you know I listen to music because it helps me to concentrate better in my studies? You think it’s weird and can’t believe but it’s true! It really brings me at ease and helps me to focus on the topic that I am reading.

There are times when I feel sad and lonely but it’s the music that always lifts me up, soothes my nerve and makes me forget about all my worries. And when I am happy the rhythm of the drums and guitar makes me tap my feet and dance to the beat in a natural way. I simply can’t get enough of that lilting music.

Doctor recommends music as a therapy to some. The sound waves emanating from the speakers reaches and affects our brain in a positive way and makes the brain waves to work on the same beat, resulting in better concentration, when the music played is more alert, or calming down, when the beat is slower. Its effect lasts longer than the music that means you can be in a state of alert for a longer time, or you can feel calmer for a little longer.

Not only music simulates our brain waves and our minds, but it controls our bodies as well. Certain stimuli are transported even further than our nervous systems, affecting our breathing and heart rate. When we listen to soothing music, our breathing rate and our heart rate settle down, making us feel less stressed and healthier.

All this and hundreds of other reasons, I will always keep on listening to music and I hope you all too will stay tuned with me!!!

The Day When The World Stopped

Can you imagine the day after the earth stopped moving? Well, the situation is something similar when you are stuck in the lift. I have suffered from this situation for two hours. This is hard to believe, right? I hope nobody should experience this.
I still remember that unfortunate morning. After saying goodbye to my mother, I heaved a sigh of relief when I saw the lift door open for me. I hopped in and the lift started cruising from the thirtieth floor. The lift was going down but my spirits were high.
Suddenly, I felt the lift slowing down and coming to a halt. The lights above flickered and then fused. I almost got freaked out! Then I remembered what my friend did when he got stuck in the lift. I slowly pressed the alarm button and immediately let go after the lift started making some sound. Can you believe that? I even got scared by the lift sound. I mustered up my courage and pressed the lift button for about ten minutes.
Then, to my relief I heard someone saying,” Boy, I have already called the lift people so do not be scared. They are on their way.”

I said ok and after an hour, the lift people arrived and pushed the door open. I walked out of the lift after thanking them and made my way to my house. My mother, who was surprised to see outside the door, asked me why I was not in school. I told her I got stuck in the lift and related the whole incident to her. I, being such a scary cat, decided to always take the stairs from that day onwards. I hoped I would never get stuck in the lift.
After a few days later, I remembered that my hand phone was in my pocket and I could have used it instead of waiting for an hour. I realized how foolish and dumb I was! This incident will forever be etched in my memory.

April Fool's Bag

It was a bright and sunny Tuesday. A day I dreaded the most because of endless series of classes that stretched until three PM. I was listening to the monotonous voice of my Science teacher barely trying to keep myself awake. I could see paper planes from my classmates flying all over the place and our class looked more like a fish market. The teacher, oblivious to the noise, kept on reading the notes as if she was teaching to herself!
A sudden ringing of the school bell awoke us and instantly we all ran towards the canteen to enjoy our recess break. Not feeling hungry I headed to the soccer field, when I saw my classmate Harry carrying a huge and bulky black bag near a tree at one corner of the soccer field.

His probing eyes didn’t notice me when he placed the bag beside the tree. I quickly started walking towards him but suddenly he turned around and after seeing me started sprinting away. I felt something was amiss.
“John! Come and play soccer with us,” my friend’s voice broke me out of my thoughts.
I decided to check it out later and went to play with my friends but the school bell rang soon. In the class whenever I looked at Harry, he would turn away in the other direction. My suspicion was growing stronger and then came the emergency announcement from the PA system.
“Teachers and students, one of our teachers has spotted a big, bulky black bag beside the school field which has a ticking sound coming from it. We suspect it might be a bomb. We are going to call the bomb experts right now. There is no need to panic but all classes should assemble at the hall immediately,”
A big commotion followed while everyone stated evacuating the class. I looked at Harry while walking with a questioning face but he still kept avoiding me.
When Chief Commander of National Security, Con Riley received a call from our principal, he was sipping his tea.
“Commander Riley speaking,” he said in a thick baritone voice.”Sir, I am afraid we have a major situation…”
In the nick of time, the bomb experts arrived and cordoned off the area. I watched them walk hurriedly towards the bag.

They cautiously touched the bag to open it. Everyone was waiting with a bated breath but to everyone’s astonishment it turned out to be a hoax. The bag was full with newspapers and few clocks. Seeing Harry watching from one corner with a smirk on his face, I walked towards him fuming with anger. I questioned him about his dangerous antics. How could Harry, the smartest and quietest boy from secondary two, could do such a thing?
He told me that since it was first of April he wanted to do a small prank not knowing about the serious consequences. I scolded him and told never to play such a nasty trick again or else I would inform the principal about today’s incidence. I will never forget this incident.
